‘You’re the one’: What it’s like to be a new mom with a newborn
BEAUMONT, Texas — “You’re like a ghost and we don’t know why you’re here,” says Krista Williams.
Williams has been a new mother since her first pregnancy and now is living with her husband, Matthew Williams.
They both are doctors, but they are different.
Krista Williams has been with her family for 10 years and Matthew Williams has never been married.
But now, at age 40, they have a baby.
We had a couple of miscarriages and it was very hard.
“I felt very guilty, I felt like I had done something wrong,” says Matthew Williams, the doctor.
So, after spending most of her pregnancy in hospital, Krista, who was pregnant when she got home from her second trimester, decided to have an abortion.
She says it was the hardest thing she ever had to do.
She had been struggling to get her life together and had no money.
She knew she wanted to have another child.
But the doctor told her that was out of the question.
I didn’t want to do it.
I had two children and I was a single mom, he said.
At the time, she was living in a trailer park in Beaumont, Texas.
She didn’t have the resources or the desire to get an abortion, so she decided to take matters into her own hands.
She called a friend who is an OB/GYN and offered to help.
It was a blessing and a curse.
The doctor agreed and Krista had to deal with the shock of being unable to access abortion care.
It was a very difficult time for her and her family.
The OB/Gyn told Krista she needed to go through some medical tests before she could get an appointment.
But she couldn’t afford to go to an urgent care clinic.
She had to pay $3,000 upfront and the doctor wanted to charge $15 an hour.
A couple of months later, Kristan got a call from the OB/gyn, telling her that he could see Krista and her two children.
The clinic could not take her children, so Krista agreed to come to the doctor’s office and get an ultrasound.
When the ultrasound came back, Kristy was in the process of getting her second child.
The OB/gyn gave Krista an abortion pill, but Krista was too upset to swallow it.
He put it in her mouth and put a straw in her eyes to calm her down.
In the end, he had to give her a dose of anesthesia because Krista couldn’t swallow.
He told her it was just a precaution.
Then, he brought the baby home and she cried.
But he didn’t tell her she had had an abortion because she had already been diagnosed with a preeclampsia.
After the abortion, Kristal went back to the OBs office and asked to see her OB/gyn.
He gave her an ultrasound that showed a fetus with no head.
He said it was too early to make a decision.
Eventually, Kristi and her husband had to move to a new city.
When she arrived, she felt like she had lost everything.
Now, Kristina is on a path to self-sufficiency, living with Matthew, a father of two who is also a OB/Gynecologist.
He is doing a residency program at the University of Texas at Austin and Kristi is planning to take over as the OB-GYN at the end of the month.
They have been through so much together.
I have no idea how to explain it, says Matthew.
He was never married and we were both very, very busy.
I could never imagine what it would be like to not have a family, he says.
Even though I know we are different, we have the same goal.
We want to be able to go back to our families.
And we have a lot of confidence in our abilities to do that.
Kristi and Matthew have been married for 13 years.
But they have always been open about their marital status.
You know, he doesn’t know me well, but I think that is one of the reasons I think he is so excited about the future.
